Great app
Very nicely done. Is there a way to lock the app in "viewer" mode so that a guest or kid can just follow along or view whats on the MFD without being able to change settings...?
Great app
I can fish from the front of my boat and watch the fish finder on my phone! Runs my phone battery down, but all apps do
Careful what chartplotter you have
Read the description on this before buying the wifi device that this pairs with. It does not work with 5000 or 6000 series plotters even though those systems will recognize your device and transfer waypoints via the Garmin BlueChart app. The answer to my compatibility question at Garmin is to replace my $3000 and $4000 displays with a $5000 display. Ouch.
Doesnt work
Repeated tries dont work. Stuck on "connecting to network device". Bought the unit for this feature, so very disappointing.
Works as advertised
I have the 7608 and it works great. The problems from the other reviews are that they are not using a compatible unit. Older units are not supported as a company understandably only wants to upgrade and support current units. I would like to see the ability to have a separate display and control than the main unit. For example: the main unit being used on a chartplotter/radar screen and then the app showing Downview/Sideview Sonar. Personally I mostly use the app when up front of the boat, but with more functionality any vessel would greatly benefit over such options allowing Garmin to offer scalability and flexibility over any other brand. Maybe even offering just display that can app off of the main display as mentioned above.
